Zac Efron opens up about his alcohol and drug addiction

Zac Efron is just one of the most recent Hollywood celebrities who have opened up about his addiction to alcohol. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the twenty-six year old actor who started his career with “High School Musical” entered rehab in 2013, although the details of his treatment have been kept under wraps.

In a recent interview Zac Efron describes his struggles as “never-ending,” noting that he had been drinking way too much when he entered rehab last year. He also admits he was taking drugs, a struggle which began several years ago as he began to transition from a teen star to more adult roles, including “The Lucky One” and “The Paperboy.”

Movie start roles left Zac Efron feeling isolated and alone

It’s a common problem, not just for stars in Hollywood, but for everyone. Isolation, loneliness and a feeling like something is missing from life. Zac Efron notes he had been working non-stop and started to feel burned out. “There was something lacking, some sort of hole that I couldn’t really fill up. I was just so deep into my work, it was really the only thing I had,” he said.

Zac Efron also admitted his stardom left him feeling isolated from others. But now he sees that his struggles have helped him grow and develop into a better person. He’s also started therapy by joining Alcoholics Anonymous.

“I mean, you’re in your 20s, single, going through life in Hollywood, you know?” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “Everything is thrown at you. I wouldn’t take anything back; I needed to learn everything I did.”

Zac Efron says he is more in control of his life now after treatment and therapy and things have become easier. He says he is more comfortable with who he is now. He has also become a more disciplined person with scheduled workouts and bedtimes. He hopes his maturity as well as his new lifestyle will help his career.

He has starred in two movies this year, including “That Awkward Moment” which came out earlier this year and “Neighbors” with Seth Rogan that is set to be released in a few days.

Mistakes are part of life for stars

Zac Efron also admits that he’s just like any other person- he makes mistakes. “It’s impossible to lead an honest and fulfilling life as a man and not make mistakes and ‘fess up to them when you need to,” Efron said. “I’m a human being, and I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I’ve learned from each one.”

Zac Efron is in good company in Hollywood. Stars who have admitted to alcohol and drug addiction are prevalent in Hollywood and include other such as David Cassidy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Justin Bieber, Trace Adkins, Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, Tim McGraw, and Glee star Cory Monteith who recently passed away from mixed drug toxicity, involving intravenous heroin use combined with the ingestion of alcohol.
