Why was Chris Pine arrested for driving under the influence?

According to a report issued by New Zealand police, Chris Pine was stopped during a routine traffic stop at a DUI checkpoint in the South Island town of Methven. At the time of the DUI arrest, Chris Pine had a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit in New Zealand of 0.08%. He was officially charged for driving under the influence on March 1, 2014. Chris Pine and his publicist did not have comments about the DUI arrest when they were contacted by the press on Wednesday.

At the time of the DUI arrest Chris Pine had been celebrating at a bar on the night of February 28th to celebrate the completion of the film, according to Casey Crawford, manager of the Blue Pub, a Methven bar. Chris was also with his Icelandic girlfriend, Iris Bjork Johannesdottir.

According to reports, however, although Chris Pine was reportedly drinking beer, he did not appear intoxicated. He left the bar at approximately 2:30 a.m. after taking photographs with many of the local residents of the New Zealand town.

“He looked like he just wanted to spend time with his partner,” Crawford told the newspaper. But Crawford also noted that Chris was friendly with the crowd. Crawford said the bar offered patrons transportation home.

Chris Pine is currently filming a movie titled “Z for Zachariah” in New Zealand. The film is expected to be released next year after shooting is complete in the South Island’s picturesque Banks Peninsula.
