Ohio crackdown on drunk driving from Aug 19 – Sept 5

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the county sheriff’s offices in the state of Ohio have agreed to participate in this year’s national law enforcement crackdown on DUI.

This year the enforcement period will be from August 19 to September 5th, continuing through the Labor Day Holiday. The goal of the national law enforcement campaign is to reduce DUI and vigorously enforce Ohio’s drunken driving laws.

Driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs accounted for approximately 32% of all traffic deaths last year (Source: NHTSA/FARS, 2010). DUI in Ohio is also one of the leading killers of motorists in the state.

According to WMFD News reports, the Richland County Safe Communities Coalition will use the “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving” message to attempt to positively influence the drinking and driving problem.

One of the safest ways to enjoy the summer is to appoint a designated driver, prior to an evening’s festivities, who will be able to safely drive all party-goers home. Keep in mind it is illegal in every state to drive with a BAC of 0.08 % higher.
