Randy Travis arrested for DWI in TexasRandy Travis, who has been described by some as having one of the most distinctive voices in country music, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) after crashing his car near Tioga, Texas, last night.
Police report the country music legend was naked and combative at the time of his DWI arrest. He was arrested for felony retaliation and obstruction charges, according to the Grayson County Sheriffs office. According to reports, Travis was driving a 1998 TransAm at the time of the incident. A little after midnight the sheriffs arrived at the scene to find him naked and lying in the street. The police attempted to subdue Travis who, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety, threatened to kill the police. Although Travis refused to submit to a sobriety test, he was required to provide a blood sample which the police are currently analyzing. Traviss representatives have not provided any comments on the Texas DWI arrest, and Travis has been released on bond. He is scheduled to appear before a Sherman county Judge. This is not the first brush with the law for Travis who was arrested and charged with public intoxication in February of this year. In this earlier incident Travis was not driving his car but was parked outside of a church in the Texas town of Sanger, near his home after having a fight with his girlfriend. Randy Travis was born May 4, 1959. He has had 16 number one hits and has recorded 20 studio albums. He was most successful in the 1980s, but his record sales declined in the early 1990s. He left Warner Brothers Records and has spent the last several years focusing on gospel music. Travis has also tried his hand at acting appearing in many films and television series, most notably Touched by an Angel and Texas Rangers. Traviss troubles began in 2010 when Travis divorced his wife of 19 years. The divorce was messy, followed by an even messier legal difficulties when Elizabeth Travis. Elizabeth Travis filed a lawsuit against Randy Travis earlier this year claiming he breached the legal contract she had to perform management duties for him. Randy Travis counter-sued claiming Elizabeth had leaked information which had hurt his career.
