Drunk driving - Matthew Fox confesses embarrassment to Ellen DeGeneres
At least one celebrity feels shame for his most recent drunk driving charge. Matthew Fox, who was arrested for DUI arrest in May 2012, came clean to Ellen DeGeneres on her show October 17. The Lost star on his most recent appearance with DeGeneres discussed not only his most recent DUI but also the alleged altercation with a bus driver in August of last year. Fox is aware of the negative publicity he has received in the last year and specifically addressed the claims of the assault with Ellen claiming, "It's been a very tough year for myself and my family," Fox said. "It's difficult to be accused of something that you did not do. I've never hit a woman in my life. Never have, never will. That's not a part of who I am as a man and hold that very dear to how I define my character. So that's been very difficult."
According to Fox, he was first punched in the face by another man and when he defended himself a fight broke out. Fox claims that the woman, Heather Bormann, was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. Fox claims that this is just another example of someone attempting to extort money from a celebrity.
Now that both the criminal and the civil case have been dismissed, Fox is free to tell his side of the story and clear up any misconceptions that his fans may still have about his involvement in the alleged assault.
During the show, Fox also had a chance to talk about his drunk driving charge in Bend, Oregon. Fox, who lives in Oregon with his wife Margherita Ronchi, and their daughter Kyle and son Byron, has taken full responsibility for this drunk driving arrest. He has taken the DUI charges seriously and has cooperated fully with the state of Oregon, including paying drunk driving fines and taking the DUI alcohol education course required by the state to reinstate his drivers license.
He was surprised at how much he learned about drunk driving, specifically that is very common for a DUI offender to commit a DUI offense a second time. According to reports, 50 percent of people that get one DUI will get another. Fox has assured his fans that even though he made one mistake he will never do it again. Fox stated, "I found that [statistic] pretty astounding after what I've been through. I will absolutely not be in the statistic. There is just no way."
Foxs most avid fans can expect to see him this month in his movie Alex Cross where he will be playing a new role, a ferociously skilled serial killer who specializes in torture and pain. Fox will battle with Tyler Perry, who will play a homicide detective who is pushed to the brink of his moral and physical limits as he battles with Foxs character.
Everyone who loved Matthew Fox first on Party of Five and later on Lost wishes him the best and hopes that his latest drunk driving arrest and DUI conviction will be his last.
