Jesus Antonio Godinez kills other drivers in DUI collision

ABC San Francisco reports this weekend in San Leandro, California, a 32 year old man was killed in a head on crash at 10:45 p.m. on E. 14th Street just north of Davis Street due to the illegal actions of Jesus Antonio Godinez.  Police have called the accident a horrible tragedy.

Jesus Antonio Godinez in collision which kills two

  According to officers who responded to the call, 19-year-old Jesus Antonio Godinez, a Vallejo resident, had a high speed collision while travelling on E. 14th Street and crossing over into oncoming traffic near the intersection of Davis Street. The vehicle of Jesus Antonio Godinez collided with another car, killing a 32 year old woman driving the second car. Another passenger, a 56-year-old passenger, also was injured and has suffered “major injuries.” He was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Jesus Antonio Godinez was driving alone at the time of the accident. Jesus Antonio Godinez also was injured and taken to an area hospital for medical treatment. According to police reports, Jesus Antonio Godinez has been arrested and will be charged with suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter. Police believe he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the deadly crash. He is currently under police protection at the hospital, but when he is released, he will be taken to the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. According to police, "This is a horrible tragedy that will impact the San Leandro community. We offer our condolences to the family of the man that lost his life due to another senseless act." The police are still looking for anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who have more information about the collision. In other DUI news, KABC in California has also reported that Simi Valley Councilman Steve Sojka was arrested on March 12 on suspicion of driving under the influence in El Segundo, California. The councilman was arrested by police in El Segundo but posted bail eight hours later. The police have not released details about his DUI arrest but we can expect to see him back in court on June 17, 2014, at his DUI arraignment. According to KABC, “The councilman was appointed to the Simi Valley City Council on Nov. 30, 1998. His lawyer says his conduct was not related to his work as an elected official.”

Rohnert Park man not charged yet with killing two women

  Finally, ABC San Francisco reports that the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office has decided to wait to file charges against a Rohnert Park man in connection with an alleged distracted driving crash that killed two women on Saturday. The court has decided that before charges will be filed the court will wait for the results of a urine test and additional information about the accident. The driver remains out of custody on $100,000 bail. According to arrest reports, the driver has been arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of a drug causing death. He posted $100,000 bail and was released from the Sonoma County jail on Sunday.
