DUI Arrests Skyrocket over July 4th Weekend

Nothing says 4th of July like chili dogs, watermelon, fireworks and DUI arrests? According to news reports cities all over America are cracking down on drivers who are drinking and getting behind the wheel this holiday weekend. In Los Angeles, California, over 500 people were arrested for driving under the influence over the weekend, according to preliminary reports, and the Los Angeles County law enforcement officials have created a task force that arrested 450 drivers in the first 48 hours of the weekend (statistics gathered from arrests made between 12:01 a.m. Friday and midnight Sunday). Biloxi, Mississippi, reports that state troopers arrested 214 DUI drivers which was a 27% increase over DUI arrests in 2010. Statewide, Mississippi patrol officers issued a whopping 5,211 citations between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight Monday. The 4th of July was also one of the biggest weekends for DUI arrests in Arizona. In 2010, Arizona law enforcement officers arrested more than 434 drivers according to the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety. This weekend drivers who were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs had a high chance of a DUI arrest. The Fourth of July is a great time to celebrate with your friends and family, but it also can be a dangerous time to drive if you drink. There were hundreds of people killed in motor vehicle accidents nationally on the Fourth of July Weekend and many of them involved drivers who were intoxicated with a BAC or blood alcohol concentration which was over the legal limit of 0.08%.
