Alfonzo Dennard drunk driving charges dismissed in plea agreement
Alfonzo Dennard, New England Patriots cornerback, has had his drunk driving charge against him dismissed. According to the Associate Press, this is part of a plea agreement Alfonzo Dennard made with the Lincoln city attorneys office, specifically chief city prosecutor John McQuinn.
Reports indicate that Dennard pleaded no contest to refusing to take a chemical test. And in exchange, the state agreed to dismiss his driving under the influence case. Alfonzo Dennard is already on probation in a second case for hitting a police officer and the probation for the current DUI conviction will run concurrently with the probation for his other charge. Alfonzo Dennard will now be required to serve an extended probation for three years, he will have to pay a $500 fine, his community service will be doubled to 200 hours and he will serve 60 days in jail.
The plea agreement made with Alfonzo Dennard is typical of other agreements made with other defendants, according to assistant prosecutor Christine Loseke, who represented the city attorneys office during the hearing in Lancaster County Court. And as with other DUI defendants, Dennards drunk driving charges can be reinstated if he does not meet the conditions of his probation. Loseke also noted that the charges for the DUI are similar to the charges for the DUI test refusal. According to the Associated Press, He admitted in a September hearing in Lancaster County District Court that he had been drinking and driving, and prosecutors moved to have his probation revoked.
Alfonzo Dennard refused to comment outside the courtroom following the agreement.
