Definition of Fixation

Fixation is defined as the ability of the eye or eyes to focus on a single point. The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has determined that there are certain physical signs that may be present if a driver is intoxicated. The NHTSA states that common appearances of intoxication include not only slouching in the seat, gripping the steering wheel and gesturing obscenely, but also may include "eye fixation".
